Primary text

The expression 'la khilabah' does not inherently mandate an option for revocation, nor does it mandate a limitation to three days. The ruling should be based strictly on what the wording implies. The narration suggesting an option for three days is viewed by some as being related only to Hibban, as he was granted the right to return the item even to someone unaware of the implied condition. Furthermore, the narration supporting the three-day option is reported by Ibn Majah as mursal (disconnected chain), which is not considered binding evidence by those employing this argument.

Some scholars maintain that the ruling proven for one Companion is generally established for all others unless there is specific evidence restricting it solely to that individual.
