Some scholars define the distinction by recurrence: whatever recurs every year is the responsibility of the cultivator, and what does not recur annually falls to the owner of the capital. This distinction holds true for labor, but purchasing items for pollination is incumbent upon the owner even if recurring, as it is not considered labor.
