Primary text

If the felony necessitates a monetary fine or retaliation (*qisas*), and the claimant agrees to a monetary settlement for retaliation, the fine attaches to the neck of the *mudabbir*. If the master is permitted to sell the *mudabbir*, the master has the option to either surrender him to be sold for the fine, in which case the *tadbir* is nullified, or to ransom him. If ransomed by the master with the established ransom amount, the *tadbir* remains valid. If the master's sale is not permitted, the ransom amount is imposed upon the master, similar to an *Umm Walad* (mother of a child by the master).
