Primary text
Seven conditions must be met for a witness's testimony to be accepted. First, the witness must be rational (Aaqil), which is agreed upon. Second, the witness must be Muslim (to be discussed later). Third, the witness must be an adult (Baligh). Fourth, the witness must possess justice ('Adalah). Fifth, the witness must be attentive and possess a good memory (Mutaheffiz) concerning the event being testified about; the testimony of the careless or one known for frequent mistakes is not accepted. Sixth, the witness must possess chivalry/propriety (Muru'ah). Seventh, there must be an absence of impediments (Mawani').
