The Quranic verse, 'And the poets—only those who follow them are the misguided' (Quran 28:224), specifically targets those who exaggerate, lie, wander aimlessly in every valley (Quran 28:225), and say what they do not perform (Quran 28:226). This verse is understood to be a condemnation of the majority of poets prevalent during the early period of Islam who engaged in slandering Muslims, abusing the Prophet (PBUH), criticizing Islam, and praising disbelievers.
