The Quranic verse, 'And the poets—only those who follow them are the misguided' (Quran 28:224), specifically targets those who exaggerate, lie, wander aimlessly in every valley (Quran 28:225), and say what they do not perform (Quran 28:226). This verse is understood to be a condemnation of the majority of poets prevalent during the early period of Islam who engaged in slandering Muslims, abusing the Prophet (PBUH), criticizing Islam, and praising disbelievers. The verse explicitly exempts those who believed, acted righteously, and remembered Allah often (Quran 28:227), thereby indicating that poetry is permissible and that its practitioners, when possessing noble qualities, are praiseworthy.
