Is the testimony (shahada) of one who plays with pigeons valid?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Testimonies
Primary text
The testimony of one who plays with pigeons and makes them fly is invalid. This is the position held by the companions of al-Ra'y (the people of opinion). Furthermore, Shurayh disallowed the testimony of a keeper of pigeons or someone who owns pigeons because this activity constitutes foolishness, baseness, and a lack of chivalry. It also inherently involves causing harm to neighbors through the flight of the birds, looking over their private quarters, and throwing stones at them.
Supporting text
If pigeons are kept only for the purpose of seeking their young, for carrying messages, or for companionship without causing harm that extends to others, then their testimony is not rejected.
