Primary text

The testimony of two women is not accepted alone. This is the position held by Al-Shafi'i. The evidence for this is that when testimony regarding financial matters lacks a man, it is not accepted, similar to the case where four women testify. Furthermore, the testimony of two women is inherently weak, and it is strengthened by the presence of a man; similarly, the oath (yamin) is weak, and adding a weak element to another weak element results in something that is not accepted.

Supporting text

Imam Malik accepts the testimony of two women along with the plaintiff's oath in matters pertaining strictly to financial claims (Amwal). This is because, in financial matters, two women are considered to be standing in the place of a man, and thus they swear alongside him, just as they would swear alongside another man.
