Primary text

Abu Hanifa posits that if the eye of a beast utilized in two ways (such as a mount, camel, or cow) is removed, half its value is due. If only one eye is removed, a quarter of its value is due, based on the statement of 'Umar concerning the consensus on the quarter value.

Supporting text

This opinion is disputed because the basis of 'Umar's statement was specific to 'Dabba' (mounts), which in common usage refers to animals used for riding, excluding the general category of livestock ('Bahimat al-An'am').
