Who is liable when borrowed livestock causes damage?

The liability for damage caused by borrowed livestock rests entirely upon the borrower (musta'ir), regardless of whether the damaged property belongs to the lender or a third party. This is because liability is established through possession, and possession of the animal is held by the borrower.
