Who is liable for damage when a usurped coin falls into another's container?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Usurpation
Primary text
If a usurper causes a dinar to fall into another person's inkwell, whether through their action or by chance, the inkwell must be broken to return the dinar, and the usurper is liable for the inkwell's damage because they caused the event leading to its breaking.
Supporting text
If breaking the container causes greater harm than leaving the coin inside, the usurper is liable for the container's value but the container is not broken.
