Primary text

If a usurper wears out a usurped garment, reducing its value by half, and thereafter the price of garments increases such that the garment's value returns to its original worth, the usurper must return the garment and compensate for the depreciation (arsh). The depreciation is fixed at the time the damage occurred. For example, if a garment worth ten loses value to five due to use, and later its value rises back to ten, the usurper returns the garment and is liable only for the five representing the proven depreciation.
