There are two scholarly views. The sounder view is that the owner does not owe the usurper compensation for the use of the item after accepting its substitute value, as the owner gained the right to benefit from the substitute, thus negating the right to benefit from the original item.
Supporting text
The second view holds that the owner is still entitled to the use-value because the ownership of the physical item remains with him, and thus the benefit belongs to him.
