What is the ruling regarding interference with the private religious practices of Dhimmis?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Usurpation
Primary text
It is forbidden to interfere with matters that Dhimmis believe permissible in their religion, provided these matters cause no harm to Muslims. This includes their disbelief, consumption of wine, keeping swine, and marriage to close female relatives, as long as they do not display these acts publicly. This is because we undertook the commitment to permit them these practices within our domain. If they display anything that is forbidden to Muslims, it necessitates prohibition. If they display wine, it may be spilled. If they display a cross (Salib) or a lute (Tanbur), it may be broken. If they publicly declare their disbelief, they must be disciplined, and they must be prevented from displaying what is unlawful for Muslims.
