The usurper is obligated to pay the rent equivalent (ujr mithl) for the land from the time of usurpation until it is returned, regardless of whether he utilized the usufruct or left it to waste. This is because the usufruct was destroyed while in his wrongful possession, thus necessitating compensation, analogous to physical property. This applies to everything for which rent is due.
