Is the usurper obligated to return the skin of an unslaughtered animal (maytah) that was usurped?

There are two differing opinions based on the narrations regarding purification of the skin by tanning (dabbgh). If the view holds that tanning purifies the skin, its return is obligatory because it can be remedied, making it similar to impure cloth. If the view holds that it does not become pure, its return is not obligatory because there is no way to make use of it as pure.
