Primary text

Fasting perpetually (Dahr) is obligatory upon the person who makes the vow. This vow does not inherently include the days of Ramadan, the Eid days, or the Tashreeq days (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah). If the person breaks the fast due to an excuse or otherwise, they are not required to make up the fast because the time is already dedicated to the vowed fast. However, breaking the fast incurs a Kaffarah (expiation) for the abandonment.
