Primary text

If a person vows to walk to a Haram area, or a specific location within it like Safa, Marwa, or Abu Qubays, Hajj or Umrah becomes obligatory upon them. This opinion is stated by Ahmad and held by Al-Shafi'i. The evidence relies on the similarity of vowing to walk to a specific location within the Haram to vowing to walk to Mecca.

Supporting text

Abu Hanifa holds that an obligation only results if one specifically vows to walk to the Ka'bah or to Mecca. Abu Yusuf and Muhammad state that vowing to walk to the general Haram or the Sacred Mosque entails the same obligation as the main view, but for other specific locations within the Haram, their view aligns with Abu Hanifa.
