Primary text

If one vows, saying, 'It is incumbent upon me for Allah that I come to the Sacred House, not as a pilgrim or one performing Umrah,' the obligation of Hajj and Umrah remains binding, and the subsequent restrictive condition is invalidated. This is one position among the companions of Shafi'i, based on the premise that the statement 'It is incumbent upon me to come to the House' implies Hajj or Umrah, and the condition that nullifies this falls into contradiction with the original vow, thereby nullifying its legal effect.
