If a woman menstruates throughout the entire time specified in the vow, she must make up the fast.

Regarding the Kaffarah, there are two opinions. Al-Shafi'i states that no Kaffarah is due, and concerning the makeup fast, there are two views, one being that the vow is not binding because menstruation is a time when fasting is impossible and thus excluded from the vow, similar to Ramadan. The counter-argument is that the vowed act is understood according to what is legally permissible from the beginning; since menstruation in Ramadan necessitates making up the fast, the same applies to a vowed fast.
