What is the ruling on vowing to perform a disliked act (Makruh)?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Vows
Primary text
If one vows to perform a disliked act, such as divorcing one's wife (which is disliked, as the most detested lawful thing to Allah is divorce), it is recommended that the person refrains from fulfilling the vow and instead offers the expiation of an oath. If the person does fulfill the disliked vow, there is no expiation due, mirroring the differing opinions regarding permissible acts.
