Primary text

If an individual vows to walk or ride to the Sacred House but intends merely to arrive there, the obligation is fulfilled by performing Hajj or Umrah, as walking or riding were not specified as the means. This is because the vow encompassed the arrival, which is an essential component, making it analogous to explicitly stating the action. This ruling applies when one vows to arrive at or go to the Sacred House, necessitating Hajj or Umrah.

The view attributed to Abu Hanifa states that nothing is obligatory because mere arrival at the House is neither an act of worship (qurbah) nor obedience (ta'ah).
