Primary text

Garments dyed specifically for beautification, such as saffron-dyed, Zaffaran-dyed, and other red or purely colored fabrics like pure blue, pure green, or yellow, are prohibited for wear. This is based on the Hadith: "She should not wear dyed clothing," and the statement: "She should not wear dyed clothing, nor Mamsheq." Adornment is the basis of prohibition.

Garments dyed in colors not intended for beauty, such as dark blue (Kahli), black, or deep green, are not prohibited because they do not constitute adornment. Regarding cloth whose yarn was dyed before weaving, there are two views: one states it is prohibited as it is finer and better, akin to dyed finished cloth; the other permits it based on the exception granted for 'Thob Asb' (dyed with Azfar/Qust, which was dyed before weaving). The correct view leans toward prohibition if the dyeing was for aesthetic enhancement, even if the yarn was dyed first. She is not prohibited from wearing fine, undyed garments, even if thin, whether cotton, linen, or silk, because their beauty is inherent and requires no alteration.
