Primary text

The veiled covering of the face (Niqab) and similar items like the Burqa' are to be avoided. This is because the woman observing Iddah is likened to a woman in the state of Ihram (for Hajj or Umrah), who is forbidden from covering her face. If she needs to cover her face, she should let her outer garment drape over it, similar to the practice of a Muhrimah.
