If a dispute arises regarding when the divorce occurred (during menstruation or at the end of purity), whose statement is accepted?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Waiting Periods ('Iddah)
Primary text
If the husband claims the divorce occurred at the beginning of the menstruation, while the wife claims it occurred at the end of the purity period, or if he claims the pronouncement concluded with the end of purity and she claims a remainder existed, the wife's statement is accepted. Her testimony is considered authoritative regarding the state of menstruation and the completion of the 'iddah period.
Supporting text
Those who hold that *quru'* means menstruation count the subsequent full menstruation as one *quru'* because it is a complete cycle during which no divorce occurred. Regarding the dispute, the prevailing view is that the wife's word is taken because her status regarding menstruation is accepted.
