Primary text

The waiting period is not terminated by the delivery of anything less than a *Mudhghah* (chewed lump). The minimum time for the delivery to terminate the waiting period is after eighty days from the time of possible consummation. This is derived from the prophetic tradition stating that the creation in the womb proceeds as a *Nutfah* for forty days, then an *Alaqah* for a like period, then a *Mudhghah* for a like period. Therefore, termination must occur after eighty days, covering the first two stages and the beginning of the third. There is no issue concerning deliveries after four months, as this falls within the stage where form is discernible.
