Primary text
If the Iddah is by months (due to death, menopause, or youth), the calculation follows the Iddah of both a free woman and a slave woman. If the period is half free and half slave and the Iddah is for death, she must observe three months and eight nights, as the night is counted with the day, resulting in three-quarters of the full term. If the Iddah is by months due to divorce, and the slave woman's Iddah is one and a half months, the freed woman's Iddah is one month and a quarter. If the slave woman's Iddah is two or three months, the freed woman's Iddah is the same as that of a free woman.
