Primary text

If a woman experiences one or two periods and subsequently enters the age of despair regarding menstruation (menopause), she must restart the waiting period ('iddah) with three months. This ruling is established because the waiting period cannot be comprised of two different categories (menstrual cycles and months), and since completion by menstruation became impossible, completion by months is obligatory. No specific scholarly consensus or explicit evidence is cited for this ruling other than the principle of completing the period by months when menstruation ceases prematurely.
