The waiting period (*istibra'*) for a female slave whom her master had intercourse with must be observed, similar to the waiting period required for an *Umm Walad* (consecrated concubine). This is because she is considered a marital bedding (*firash*) for her master, thus resembling the *Umm Walad* in this respect. If the slave is of a type that has regular menstrual cycles (*dhawat al-quru'*), her waiting period consists of a single menstrual cycle, according to one narration, because she does not become free upon her master's death.
