Primary text

If the utterance of divorce concludes exactly with the end of the period of purity, the divorce takes effect at the beginning of the subsequent menstruation. This divorce is considered prohibited, and that menstrual period is not counted as part of the 'iddah. She must then observe three subsequent menstruations or three periods of purity, depending on the differing scholarly opinion on the meaning of *quru'*.

Supporting text

If the husband states, 'You are divorced at the end of your purity period,' or 'at the last moment of your purity,' or if the pronouncement is concluded with no time remaining in the purity period except the moment of pronouncement, the purity period during which the divorce occurred is not counted. This is because the 'iddah must commence only after the divorce has taken effect, and there is no subsequent purity period during which she can count the preceding time, nor can what preceded it or what is close to it be counted.
