The waiting period for a menopausal woman ('A'isah) or any woman whose husband dies, whether the marriage was consummated or not, free or enslaved, is measured by months. The required term is four months and ten days, as established by the verse: {And those of you who die and leave behind wives, they shall keep themselves in waiting for four months and ten nights} (Quran 2:234).
