Inheritance rights when a slave marries a free woman and they have a child, and the slave is later manumitted.
Chapter on Inheritance of Wala'
Al-Mughni
Book of Walā' (Patronage)
Primary text
If a slave marries a woman of free lineage, has a child, the slave is manumitted, and then the slave dies, the manumitter of the father inherits nothing from the child because the child has no *Wala'* upon them (i.e., the *Wala'* follows the lineage of the free person). Similarly, if the child then dies, the father's emancipator has no inheritance rights over the child's estate due to lack of *Wala'*.
