To whom does the *Wala'* belong if the father was a freeborn man whose sons were slaves, and the mother of the children married a woman whose patrons established *Wala'* on the children?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Walā' (Patronage)
Primary text
For those who maintain that the grandfather transfers the *Wala'*, the *Wala'* belongs to the grandfather's patrons. However, if the grandfather was originally free and not a client, there is no *Wala'* upon the children of his father. If his father is manumitted afterward, no *Wala'* reverts to his sons because their freedom was established without *Wala'*, thus no new *Wala'* is established for them, similar to an originally free person.
