Can a husband buy religious items for his non-Muslim female slave or wife?

Ahmad ruled that if a man has a non-Muslim wife or female slave, he should not buy a 'zinnaar' (a distinguishing belt for Christians) for her. Instead, she should go out herself to purchase necessities for herself.
