Primary text

It is recommended to praise Allah upon finishing a meal. This is established based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH): "Indeed, Allah is pleased with His servant who eats a morsel or drinks a sip and praises Him for it" (Reported by Muslim). Furthermore, the Prophet (PBUH) was reported to have said after eating food: "Praise be to Allah who fed us, gave us drink, and made us Muslims" (Reported by Abu Dawud). Another form of praise recited by the Prophet (PBUH) after finishing his food was: "Praise be to Allah, much praise, blessed praise, praise that is not wanting, nor leaving, nor dispensable, our Lord" (Reported from Abu Umamah).

Supporting text

The recitation of a specific phrase upon finishing a meal is also supported by a narration stating that whoever says, at the beginning, "In the name of Allah and with the blessing of Allah," and at the end, "Praise be to Allah who fed and quenched, bestowed favor and granted abundance," has fulfilled his gratitude.
