What is the legal standing of a wife performing customary domestic services?

Although performing customary domestic services is not legally obligatory for the wife, it is preferable (al-awla) for her to perform what has become customary, because it constitutes accepted practice (al-'adah), and livelihood cannot be properly organized without it.
