When should one wipe their hand after eating?

One must not wipe their hand with a napkin until after licking it. This is supported by the tradition narrated from Ibn Abbas, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: 'If one of you eats food, he should not wipe his hand until he licks it or causes it to be licked.' Furthermore, a reward is established for licking the eating vessel: the narration from Nubayshah states that the Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever eats from a dish (*qas'ah*) and licks it, the dish asks forgiveness for him,' as narrated by Al-Tirmidhi.
