Primary text
It is preferable for each wife to have a separate dwelling to which the husband visits her, following the practice of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). This arrangement is better for their protection and concealment, preventing them from having to leave their homes. Alternatively, the husband may establish one residence to which he summons each wife during her allotted day and night. Any wife who refuses this summons forfeits her right to the division of time due to her disobedience (nushuz). It is also permissible for him to visit some wives in their residences and summon others to a common location, as he has the right to establish any wife's residence where he wills.
