What is the reconciliation between the prohibition of images and the permissibility of images on trodden items?

The evidence supporting permissibility for trodden items stems from the hadith of Aisha, who reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, tore down a curtain with depictions upon seeing it upon returning from a journey, saying, "Do you screen a curtain that contains depictions?" She then made two cushions from it, upon one of which the Prophet leaned. This narration is considered more specific than the general prohibitions. Furthermore, the hadith transmitted from Abu Talhah, where he cited the Prophet's statement, "The angels do not enter a house with a depiction or a dog," but then mentioned the exception, "except for markings on clothing," confirms that what is spread out (trodden upon) is permissible, while what is hung is disliked.
