Primary text

The husband's time spent with the wife during the mandated seven or three days following the marriage contract carries the same ruling as the general division of time between spouses, meaning its foundation is the night. He is permitted to leave during the day to earn his livelihood and fulfill obligations owed to others. If circumstances such as confinement, legal detention, or a valid excuse prevent him from staying the night, he must make up that time with her. He is permitted to leave for congregational prayer, as the Prophet, peace be upon him, did not abandon it for this reason, and he may leave for necessary matters. If he stays away for a long time, he must make up the time; if the absence was brief, no making up is required.
