The use of the duff is not prohibited. This ruling is established based on the transmitted hadiths and the command of the Prophet, peace be upon him, regarding its use in marriage ceremonies. A clear evidence is the report from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, stating that Abu Bakr entered upon her while two young slave girls were playing the duff and singing during the days of Mina. The Prophet, peace be upon him, was covered with his garment. When Abu Bakr admonished them, the Prophet uncovered his face and commanded, 'Leave them, O Abu Bakr, for these are the days of Eid.' This hadith is Muttafaq Alayh (agreed upon by Bukhari and Muslim).
