Primary text

When a complete hand is severed, the injured party may choose retaliation, in which case he takes the hand (the equivalent severed part), and nothing else is due to him, or he may forgive and take blood money (Diyya) for his hand. If he chooses Diyya, there is no known disagreement that he receives the Diyya for his hand, because he was unable to fully exercise his right through Qisas, thus the Diyya becomes due, similar to a case where the cutter had no hand at all. This is the view of Abu Hanifa, Malik, and Al-Shafi'i.
