Primary text

Retaliation for severing the tongue by severing the tongue of the perpetrator is mandatory, based on the verse, "And the wounds are subject to retaliation" (Quran 5:45). This ruling is established because the tongue has a defined limit to which the retaliation extends, allowing for equivalence, similar to the eye. There is no known dispute regarding the application of *qisas* for the tongue.
