What is the ruling if both wounds prove fatal when inflicted by the same person?

Chapter on Retaliation (Qawad)

Primary text

Retribution for the life is not obligatory because the death resulted from two wounds, one necessitating retribution and one not. Retribution is obligatory for the leg, as it was severed from a free man. If retribution is executed for the leg, half the blood money is due because death resulted from that injury, and what corresponds to half the blood money has already been taken. The master is owed the lesser of half the slave's value or half the blood money; if half the blood money exceeds half the slave's value, the excess goes to the heirs. If the heirs pardon the retribution, they are also owed half the blood money.

Supporting text

If the cutter of the leg was different from the cutter of the hand, and both wounds healed separately, the cutter of the hand owes half the value to the master, and the cutter of the leg owes retribution or half the blood money.
