Primary text

The injured party is not entitled to sever the limb at that non-joint location. They receive half the Diyah for the hand and compensation (Arsh) for the portion of the forearm that was severed. A report concerning this matter supports this ruling.

Supporting text

There are two views on whether the injured party can choose to sever the limb at the wrist, analogous to the situation when severance occurs at the mid-palm. Furthermore, concerning the component parts, there are two views on the validity of amputating the fingers. If amputation of the fingers is enacted, there is no compensation for the palm, as it could have been claimed via Qisas, barring the right to claim its Arsh, just as if the original injury was at the wrist.
