Primary text

If a Muslim severs the hand of a Christian who then becomes a Zoroastrian, and the ruling is that retribution (*qisas*) is not applicable, the situation is treated the same as if the Muslim had committed the injury against another Muslim who then apostatized. This suggests the legal consequence reverts to the original established liability under the condition that *qisas* is abandoned.

Supporting text

If the ruling is that retribution *is* applicable in this case (Christian turning Zoroastrian), then the blood money (*diyah*) due is that of a Zoroastrian.
