What is the ruling regarding the severance of a man's two feet?
Chapter on Retaliation (Qawad)
Al-Mughni
Book of Wounds
Primary text
The ruling concerning the severance of a man's two feet is the same as the ruling concerning the severance of two lives, subject to the detailed differences previously established. The established ruling is that retribution (Qisas) applies, similar to the case of killing, with the associated jurisprudential details.

The companions of Ra'y (Ahl al-Ra'y) stated that retribution should be exacted for both feet separately, and the perpetrator must pay half the indemnity (Diyya) for one hand to each of the two feet owners. This view is invalid because it necessitates imposing retribution for part of a limb and indemnity for another part simultaneously, combining the substitute payment (Diyya) and the original subject (the feet) in one instance, which is not legislated nor analogous to any precedent.
