Primary text

There is no known disagreement among scholars that for commodities other than grains and fruits, one genus cannot be combined with another genus to complete the Nisab. Livestock are three genera—camels, cattle, and sheep—and one cannot be combined with another. Similarly, fruits cannot be combined; dates cannot be combined with raisins, almonds, pistachios, or hazelnuts, nor can any of these fruits be combined with livestock or grains.

Supporting text

There is no disagreement that different *types* within a single genus must be combined to complete the Nisab. Furthermore, commercial goods ('Urud) must be combined with currency (Athman), and vice versa, although Al-Shafi'i restricts combining goods only with the type of currency used to purchase them, as the Nisab reference is tied to that original purchase currency.
