Primary text

There is a known difference of opinion regarding the precise weight of one Sa', as clarified in the chapter on Purity. The established measure accepted here is five Rütls and one-third Rütl according to the Iraqi standard. Consequently, five Wasaqs amount to three hundred Sa's, which equals one thousand six hundred Iraqi Rütls. The Iraqi Rütl is defined as one hundred twenty-eight dirhams and four-sevenths of a dirham, weighing seventy mithqals. Although a later addition of one mithqal (one dirham and three-sevenths) was made to the Rütl, resulting in ninety-one mithqals and one hundred thirty dirhams total weight, the ruling is based on the initial measure before this increase.

When converting to the Damascene Rütl, which equals six hundred dirhams, one Sa' is equivalent to one and one-seventh Rütls, which further equates to one Uqiyyah and five-sevenths of an Uqiyyah. Therefore, five Wasaqs equate to three hundred thirty-two Rütls, two and six-sevenths of an Uqiyyah, based on the Damascene measure.
