Book 8 · Issue 4 · Bab 4

Open in Qurani

Primary text

Barley and wheat should be combined, and the various types of *Qutniyyat* (pulses) should be combined among themselves. Specifically, millet (Dhurrah) is combined with dried beans (Dukhn) due to their similarity in purpose—both being used for bread and side dishes—and because they were listed among the *Qutniyyat*. Any components that are similar in purpose should be combined, such as different types of spices (*Abazir*) among themselves.

Supporting text

Grains of legumes (*Hubub al-Baqul*) should not be combined with *Qutniyyat* or with seeds/pulses (*Buzur*). Of those items that are similar, combination should occur among the similar ones, but uncertainty regarding combination means combination is disallowed, as the default ruling is non-obligation.
