Primary text

It is commendable if the person is alone, or if those he supports have sufficient means, and he intends to give away all his wealth, provided he has an earning capacity, or he possesses strong reliance (Tawakkul) on God, patience against poverty, and refrains from begging. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, stated when asked about the best charity: "The exertion of one with little wealth to a poor person in secret."

Supporting text

The action of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, in giving away half his wealth and then all of it (leaving only what God and His Messenger provided for his family) was a specific virtue due to his strong certainty and complete faith, and he was also a merchant with means of earning to support his family.
